Bard and a Banquet

Tomorrow is Bard and a Banquet, an event put on yearly by The Shire of Lionsdale. This year, they're putting on an original play, The Tamer Tamed (as a sequel to Taming of the Shrew) and my household is doing the food. I've been helping out (we're pre-cooking pretty much everything, between the 4 kitchens we have within a 1 block radius here) and I've put up one of the recipe's we've used in the medieval cooking blog.

Kingdom Bardic Championship

This past weekend was An Tir's Kingdom Bardic Championship competition, and it was held here in Lions Gate. It was a wonderful event... it was a Kingdom level event with the feel of a small baronial event. I ran the kitchen and as seems to be becoming a pattern, it went wonderfully and everyone loved my food. I somehow managed to feed approximately 100 people dinner on Saturday and lunch on Sunday for $143, with a bit of food left over!

Congratulations to my household-mates, His Lordship Kenneth of Shaftesbury, Her Ladyship Vivian of Shaftesbury, and Her Ladyship Delgrade Grannia MacAllister on receiving their Goutte des Sangs!

And I had a lovely houseguest, Master Conchobar Clarsair, staying with me for the weekend. He has received his Laurel for his harp music, and listening to him play and hearing him and Her Excellency ban-Tanist Bernadette talking about Irish persona stuff has renewed my interest in Celtic stuff. When I first joined the SCA, I almost went with an Irish persona, but somewhere along the way discovered the Elizabethan period and fell in love with it as well, and decided to develop an Elizabethan persona. But every so often I wish I'd gone with the Irish idea. I just might have to develop a secondary persona that's Irish someday. And I want to learn to play the harp!

Kingdom Bardic

This weekend is Kingdom Bardic Championship, and I'm running the kitchen for the event. On the menu for Saturday dinner is a beef stew and a vegetarian stew, and for Sunday lunch I'm making my well-loved medieval chicken noodle soup (the recipe's up here).

Recipes for the stews, and hopefully some pictures, will be up after the event is over.

September Crown

I didn't get to go to September Crown this year (in fact I've never managed to make it to a September Crown yet), but thanks to these photos, it almost felt like I was there.
